Common uses
This medication is typically used for hepatitis C. It requires a few weeks to take effect.
How to use this medication
This product must be injected under the skin (subcutaneously), according to the technique you were shown. Be sure to choose a different injection site each time.
Take this medication regularly and continuously to maintain its beneficial effects. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed.
The capsule of this medication should not be opened, crushed or chewed. This medication is more effective if taken with food. Always take it with a meal or a snack.
If you drink alcohol, a moderate consumption is recommended. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor to find out exactly how much alcohol you can drink.
Possible side effects
In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably:
- it may cause anemia (low red blood cells);
- it may cause unusual tiredness;
- it may cause nausea or, rarely, vomiting;
- it may cause hair loss;
- it may alter your sense of taste;
- it may lower your white blood cell count, which can lead to fever, chills, sore throat or infections -- if you experience any of these symptoms, contact your doctor right away.
Storage information
Keep this product in the refrigerator and do not allow it to freeze. Keep it out of reach of young children. Make sure that any leftover portion is disposed of safely.
Additional information
Taking this medication during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential and men who are taking the medication should use two effective contraceptive methods, except contraceptive that contains hormone (birth control pill, patch, etc.), during treatment and for several months after the end of it. Ask your healthcare professional for details.
Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor. Pregnant contacts should also be protected from exposure to the medication.
This medication may interact with other medications or supplements, sometimes significantly. Many interactions, however, may be dealt with by a dosage adjustment or a change in medication schedule. Check with your pharmacist before using this medication in combination with any other medications (including non-prescription products), vitamins or natural products.
A treatment with this medication requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.
