Complete blood count
A complete blood count (CBC) is a widely used laboratory test that analyzes the composition of the blood. It is an important tool for diagnosing various health conditions and monitoring a person's overall well-being.
The test measures several blood components, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Red blood cells contain hemoglobin, which carries oxygen throughout the body. White blood cells (made up of neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, lymphocytes, and monocytes) play a role in the immune system by fighting infections. Lastly, platelets are responsible for blood clotting.
The CBC provides valuable information about the number of blood cells, their size and shape, and other parameters. Changes in these values can indicate health problems such as anemia, infection, clotting disorders, and other medical conditions.
